Soldier Story 1/6 AR-15 rifles

The M16 (more formally Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm, M16) is the United States military designation for the AR-15 rifle. Colt purchased the rights to the AR-15 from ArmaLite and currently uses that designation only for semi-automatic versions of the rifle. Colt continues to use the AR-15 trademark for its semi-automatic variants (AR-15, AR-15A2) which are marketed to civilian customers and law-enforcement agencies.

Soldier Story will be releasing an almost complete range of 1/6 assault rifles from the M16/AR-15 family of weapons, except the original M16A1 which entered United States Army service in 1963 and was deployed for jungle warfare in South Vietnam, becoming the standard U.S. rifle of the Vietnam War by 1969 and replacing the M14 rifle in that role. Since the Vietnam War, the M16 rifle family has been the primary infantry rifle of the U.S. military.

Picture above shows 1:1 scale rifles from top to bottom: M16A1, M16A2, M4 and M16A4 and the pictures below show the various configurations and variations of the M16 that will be released by Soldier Story although no details of how they will be packaged have been announced

Dragon did produce the M16A1 rifle in the early part of the century when they released a series of military figures from the Vietnam War. Among them were Mel Gibson as Major Hal Moore and his RTO (Radio Telephone Operator) Smith from "We Were Soldiers (2002)" - a boxed set shown in my post HERE, 1/6 USMC Marine at Khe Sanh "Russell" with Russell Crowe likeness, and a Vietnam War Green Beret.

Sideshow Collectibles also released a Vietnam War 12-inch military figure series based on the movie "Platoon" which had Charlie Sheen (as noob Chris Taylor) armed with the M16A1 as well.
