Review I: Hot Toys The Avengers: 1/6 Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure

It's finally here :) Hot Toys MMS174 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Avengers: 1/6th scale Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure as he appeared in the 2012 movie "The Avengers".

After the 2011 "Captain America: The First Avenger" movie came out, I just couldn't wait to see how Cap would look like in "The Avengers". That's because movie producers and directors love to tweak the look of each comic superhero for the big screen and their costumes / outfits often do not look anything like what they are in the comics which is a nice surprise since the movie version costume will be a new look that is distinctly different from the comic book version. Sometimes they make it look better and sometimes they don't – who can forget the George Clooney Batman with the nipples!

Captain America is a comic book character I grew up with more than the rest of the other Avengers except Iron Man so I really wanted the movie producers and costume designers to get his costume right. Needless to say, I was quite pleased with the new look Captain America designed for "The Avengers" film and was even more thrilled when Hot Toys acquired the movie license to produce a 1/6 scale movie-accurate Captain America 12-inch limited edition figure from the movie. Who else can do it better than them right? And now this recently released Hot Toys Captain America 1/6 figure is in my hands :)

Scroll down to see the pictures of the box and its contents in this first part review.

I really like the box packaging design even though it's simple. The box for Hot Toys 12-inch Captain America comes with a slipcase cover with Cap on the cover printed mostly in blue color (see picture above). Slip off the cover sleeve and Cap lies inside the main tray with a window box packaging.

Here's Hot Toys The Avengers: 1/6 Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure in his tray with all the different gloved hands for posing with, a 1/6 scale Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America head sculpt and a spare hood for use when posing Cap in costume but without his mask.

Below the main tray is the accessories tray – One (1) metal-like electroplated shield, One (1) metal-like battle damaged electroplated shield, One (1) alien weapon and the 12-inch figure display stand with Captain America nameplate and the movie logo

Don't forget the instructions - very important that you read it first before attempting to do anything.

In The Avengers, Steve Rogers wears a newly constructed super suit that has a strong resemblance to the traditional Earth 616 uniform of Captain America in the comics as well as the USO uniform featured in The First Avenger. The super suit is constructed of a nomex and kevlar fiber and offers a medium level of resistance to force impacts. The suit also allows Rogers to be much more agile and flexible in combat since it's less armored weight. The uniform was designed by Phil Coulson.

And here's Hot Toys The Avengers: 1/6 scale Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure out of the box. First impression? The body is too long i.e. the pants is too short at the waist area. I feel that the pants should sit higher up the waist / hip for a more balanced look.

I like the design of this Captain America superhero costume / outfit and Chris Evans wears it well

I really dig Captain America's gloves and boots with all the nice intricate details

The Avengers Captain America superhero costume / oufit is described as blue, grayish-white and red garment with embossed pattern as well as star on chest, one pair of red gloves / gauntlets, One (1) pair of blue pants, One (1) blue belt with pouches, One (1) pair of red boots

Overall I am quite pleased with Hot Toys 1/6 scale The Avengers: Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure costume except for the pants. Gotta see if I can somehow pull it up so that it sits higher in order that Cap doesn't appear to have a rather long body / torso.

No complaints about the 1/6 scale Chris Evans as Captain America head sculpt. It's simply stunning and you can tell it's Chris Evans even with the mask on. The resemblance to the actual actor is really good and the likeness is all there. This is as real as it gets and I'm very thrilled with it.

It definitely beats the first version hands down. First version was the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Captain America: The First Avenger 12-inch Figure which was reviewed HERE. You can open a new page and scroll down for side-to-side comparisons of both head sculpts and you'll see the marked improvement. Hot Toys totally nailed it this time around.

Chris Evans plays Captain America (Steve Rogers) really well and one can certainly see him as the leader of the pack. I'm a big fan of the Captain so this figure was a must have for me.

Seeing how Hot Toys nailed the look (especially in the head sculpt area) is really nice

Here's another view of Captain America's costume as seen in "The Avengers" movie. Click on the pictures for a bigger and better view ;p Pictures are much bigger than Blogger would allow to post but clicking on them give you a full enlarged view

Check out Cap's red boots :)

And here are the accessories – One (1) alien weapon, One (1) metal-like electroplated shield, One (1) metal-like battle damaged electroplated shield and the 12-inch figure display stand with Captain America nameplate and the movie logo plus seven (7) pieces of interchangeable gloved palms (besides the pair of fists that comes with the figure) including: One (1) pair of palms for holding shield, One (1) pair of palms for throwing palms, One (1) right palm for pointing palms, One (1) pair of relaxed palms.

Up next: the newly developed alternate 1/6 scale head sculpt with authentic likeness of Chris Evans as Captain America (Steve Rogers) in the movie

This is for the additional option of posing Captain America without his mask on

For me, the mask always stays on because that's how I remember Captain America. This additional Chris Evans as Captain America head sculpt will be great for kitbashing other versions of Captain America ;p

The headsculpt with the mask is just awesome, for my one of the finest HS work I have seen.

I am more a movie fun rather than a comic one, and I have to say I liked more the first capitan américa than this. That one was very original.

Really nice pictures Alex.

Nice catch! Still waiting for mine. I like both the First Avenger ver and Rescue ver. This Avengers ver is nice too, more of a modern suit type.

In my opinion, Hot Toys should have increase the length of the blue suit at the front. I found it a bit too short if you compare to the screen photo. Nevertheless, I think is cool!

Enjoy your new toy!

Yup Dennis totally agree with you about the torso being too long. The pants should have been higher
