Check out this Square Enix Play Arts Kai Marvel Universe Variant Venom "symbiote" action figure

Preorder Square Enix Marvel Comics Variant Play Arts Kai Figure - Venom from BigBadToyStore (BBTS) HERE

Regarded by some as a second Spider-Man, Venom is iconic as both a villain and a rival to his heroic webslinging counterpart. A popular character in his own right, he has clashed not only with Spider-Man, but also with super-hero team The Avengers! Venom is a symbiotic relationship incarnate: a human host co-existing with a sentient alien parasite, appropriately called a "symbiote".

This figure portrays the ominous presence of Venom through his hulking physique, his toxic color scheme, the web-like patterns stretched across his skin, and his ghoulish, sprawling tongue. The contrast of matte and glossy textures in the paintwork, along with his realistically grotesque maw make him a truly impressive figure.

This figure’s range of motion is unlike any living creature on earth, and can be posed in wild, contorted ways. Accessories include effect parts that show symbiote appendages reaching out like massive hands, showcasing and accentuating his extraterrestrial qualities.

Hot Toys "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th Captain America 12-inch Collectible Figure Review II

continued from previous post...

Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Steve Rogers first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. Captain America was designed as a patriotic supersoldier who often fought the Axis powers of World War II and was Timely Comics' most popular character during the wartime period. Since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has remained in publication.

Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with a nearly indestructible shield that he throws at foes. The character is usually depicted as the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's imminent efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in the present day to subsequently become the long-time leader of the Avengers.

Captain America has used multiple shields throughout his history, the most prevalent of which is a nigh-indestructible disc-shaped shield made from an experimental alloy of steel and the fictional vibranium. Captain America often uses his shield as an offensive throwing weapon.

This latest Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS281 "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Captain America Collectible Figure comes with a magnetic metal / die-cast circular red and blue shield with retractable handles so no straps are needed. The magnets allow Cap to attach the shield to his back or either arms with ease as there are also corresponding magnets on the figure.

Review 1: Hot Toys "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th Captain America 12-inch Collectible Figure

Just got this Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS281 "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Captain America Collectible Figure recently (see my June haul post on my toy blog HERE). This is my first of the Avengers: Age of Ultron figures as I decided to wait for the Movie Masterpiece Diecast Series MMS300D11 - Avengers: Age of Ultron - Mark XLV Iron Man figure instead of the Mark XLIII which has already been released.

The movie-accurate Captain America Collectible Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Chris Evans as Captain America / Steve Rogers in Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring a newly painted helmeted head sculpt, a newly painted Steve Rogers head sculpt, finely tailored Captain America suit, magnetic metal Captain America shield with retractable handles, and a specially designed figure stand.

I'm a big fan of Captain America but I didn't get all the 12-inch Captain America figures Hot Toys have released, only just the ones I like and this one is the latest version of Cap as seen in this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron film. The coolness factor about this most recent 1:6 scale Cap is that the shield is magnetic and attaches to Cap's uniform (back and arms) easily without the need for straps or an extra device (hook) to hold the shield in place, as with the previous versions. I didn't think that this could be done in 1:6 scale but Hot Toys has upped the ante once again and given us something that's very close to the movie version and I applaud them for that :) Talk about realising collector's dreams. They actually made it a reality!

Pre-order Sideshow Collectibles Brown Costume Wolverine 20-inch Premium Format™ Figure

Pre-order by Sideshow Collectibles

Inspired by the events of Wolverine’s breakout comic book mini-series, collectively known as ‘the Japan Saga’, Logan embarks on a personal mission away from the X-Men to the land of the rising sun, where he must fight for the woman he loves and restore his honor. Expertly sculpted with dynamic detail, the mutant berserker crouches in anticipation of a fight over a snowy bridge riddled with arrows from unseen adversaries. Disguised in his popular classic brown and yellow costume, collectors can further define their favorite look for Logan with masked and unmasked portraits, each depicting his savage ferocity. Ready to tear through his enemies like an angry God, the lone warrior unsheathes his razor-sharp Adamantium claws, and Japanese steel forged by the swordmaster Muramasa. Because let’s face it, Bub – he's the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice...

Ever since his introduction in 1974, Wolverine has changed outfits about as many times as he's killed ninjas — a lot. For a comics icon, this can be a rarity. Captain America, Spider-Man, and Daredevil have become essentially synonymous with their trademark costumes, but not Wolverine. Wolverine's original costume introduced his signature blue and yellow color scheme and other apparel that would become hallmarks of the character's look. Featuring blue gloves, trunks, shoulder pads and winged-boots with a red belt over a yellow spandex body suit highlighted with tiger stripes, this would serve as the basis for most of Wolverine's future costumes.

This Brown and Tan costume made its first appearance in X-MEN #139 (1980). Swapping blue and yellow for brown and tan proved the most significant change, as the darker colors more closely matched the personality of the character and resulted in a costume that struck a chord with fans. Among all his costumes, the brown-and-tan would go on to have the longest continuous run, as it lasted until Wolverine switched back to his blue-and-yellow duds in 1991.

Getting to know Imperial Studio, a new toy shop

Blogging has its privileges :)

I was privileged and honored to be invited to the opening of a new toy shop in Singapore. Imperial Studio is located at 111 North Bridge Road #04-32 Peninsula Plaza right in the heart of the city (open from 12noon till 8pm). Besides selling toys (and collectibles), the owners wanted a place "where toys and people come together". One of their specialties is that they are able to specialise in original customs and work with collectors' desired customs as well. And I was blown away by the customs I saw. Not only are they of the highest quality, the customised figures are innovative, creative and most affordable. The customised figures are sturdy as award winning customiser Reeve has lots of experience and won numerous accolades for his custom work. We local collectors have been waiting for this to happen for the longest time and now, Imperial Studio is finally here to make it all come true!

The picture above is the store front and right in the centre is the main display which has a 12-inch figure of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) standing. Holographic images of the various Iron Man suits are then superimposed onto Stark's body / figure and you see him being suited up in the different Iron Man armor suits we all know too well from the Iron Man films. See if you can identify the various suits that appear on the screen when you drop by the shop. Very cool display indeed and definitely worth a visit.

Go check out their facebook page HERE and LIKE it to stay updated with all the latest news.

"Flashpoint" is an American comic book crossover story arc published by DC Comics. Consisting of an eponymous core limited series and a number of tie-in titles, the storyline premiered in May 2011. Flashpoint details an altered DC Universe in which only Barry Allen, Kid Flash, and Booster Gold seem to be aware of significant differences between the regular timeline and the altered one, including Cyborg's place as the world's quintessential hero, Superman's detention by the government, and a Thomas Wayne version of Batman who spends his days "running Wayne Casinos."

DC Comics' 2011 storyline Flashpoint set the stage for "The New 52" relaunch of DC's superhero lineup, and Batman - a.k.a. Thomas Wayne - was a major player! This darker, older Batman from a timeline where Bruce Wayne died as a child, the Thomas Wayne Batman stands approximately 12 inches tall and boasts special muscle parts added to MEDICOM's RAH 301 Kai body. Preorder Asmus Toys 1/6 scale Saruman The White Figure from BigBadToyStore (BBTS) HERE

Saruman the White is a fictional character and a major antagonist in J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. He is leader of the Istari, wizards sent to Middle-earth in human form by the godlike Valar to challenge Sauron, the main antagonist of the novel, but eventually he desires Sauron's power for himself and tries to take over Middle-earth by force. Saruman is one of several characters in the book illustrating the corruption of power; his desire for knowledge and order leads to his fall, and he rejects the chance of redemption when it is offered.

In Peter Jackson's film trilogy (2001–2003), Saruman is significantly more active in the first two films than in their equivalent books, and he appears in several scenes that are not depicted in Tolkien's work. In the films, Saruman is depicted presenting himself outright as a servant of Sauron. In Jackson's adaptation of the prequel, The Hobbit, Lee reprises his role as Saruman the White, even though Saruman does not appear in the novel. Saruman was played by British horror actor Christopher Lee in all of Jackson's films.

Demons and evil doers beware! Raven is ready for action as she floats in the air, hands outstretched before her to conjure eldritch energies. The Teen Titan wears her classic costume with thigh high boots, bodysuit with long tabard, detached sleeves anchored at the middle finger, and a massive swirling cloak with pointed hood. The flowing movement of the demonic heroine’s clothing gives the statue a life of its own as well as making it look like Raven is floating above your shelf.

Star Wars Costume Evolution: Stormtroopers

Thanks to Halloween Costumes, we have a fun Star Wars infographic that offers us a look at the evolution of the Stormtroopers costume design. Over the years we've seen several different designs for them, and here they all are conveniently placed for you to look at and perhaps learn a few things you might not have known about them.

Here's the note that came along with the infographic:
When George Lucas conceived of Star Wars, he created an industry -- costumes and animatronics, special effects and digital sound, you name it! Many of the things we take for granted in movies today exists because of Lucas, LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, and Industrial Light & Magic.

Nobody does iconic looks like George Lucas and his creative team, and next to Darth Vader himself, the Stormtroopers have some of the most noticeable and recognizable costumes in the Star Wars universe. While the Stormtrooper and clone trooper armors haven't changed much in their look since the Clone Wars, their helmets have undergone the most drastic changes and had the most amazing variations throughout their use. From the onset of the Clone Wars to 2015's Episode VII: The Force Awakens, check out how the Stormtrooper costume has changed in it's nearly 50-year history!

Pre-order First Hellboy 12-inch Statue by Mondo - Created by Mike Mignola way back in 1991

Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles

In 1991, comic artist and writer Mike Mignola created a black and white illustration at a comic convention of a demon character that bore the name "Hellboy" on his belt. This was the genesis of the filed-homed fighter of the supernatural known and loved today.

The First Hellboy Statue by Mondo brings the original concept to life, showcasing all the strange and fun details of the original drawing. In addition to all the sculpted details, original Hellboy colorist Dave Stewart was enlisted to design the color scheme for the piece. Now is a Hell of a time to bring this piece of comic history home!

The demon itself bears virtually no resemblance to Hellboy, and Mignola had no intention of doing anything serious with the concept, but later decided he liked the name. Mignola became interested in doing a creator-owned comic, as he felt it made more sense to create his own characters for the stories he wanted to tell, rather than trying to shoehorn existing characters into these stories.

Comparison pictures of Hot Toys 1:6 Batman figures - Dark Knight, Arkham, 1966, 1989 etc

continued from previous post...

Having reviewed and posted lots of pictures of the latest Hot Toys released VGM18 (Video Game Masterpiece Series) "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Figure on my toy blog HERE and HERE, I was curious to know just how big and how tall this Arkham City Batman is compared to the other 1/6th scale Batman figures that have been released. Well, this post will answer that by comparing Hot Toys Arkham Batman alongside some of the other Batman figures Hot Toys has released, as well as a side-to-side comparison with some other 1:6 scale Batman figures released by other manufacturers. It may not be as comprehensive as it gets but it's a good start. It's all to do with the height and size.

The first picture above shown has Hot Toys Arkham City Batman figure standing behind Tim Burton's 1989 Michael Keaton Batman and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Christian Bale Batman. All 1:6 scale figures are by Hot Toys but not all of them are 12 inches tall. Arkham City Batman is the tallest and biggest of them all (In the game, he's 6 feet 2 inches of bulking muscles) so he really stands out here. Not sure if that's a good thing in real life because that would make Bruce Wayne too prominent in terms of size and height and would certainly stand out from among the crowd. One wouldn't have to be a detective to discover who the man behind the Batman mask is since Bruce and Bats would be of the same height and size in a city filled with normal people who wouldn't all be 6 feet 2 inches tall.

Scroll down to see more Batman size comparison pictures. Click on them for bigger and better views. I have a group picture further down this post with seven Batman figures all lined up to clearly show where they all stand in terms of height. Enjoy :)

Hot Toys VGM "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman 12-inch Collectible Action Figure Review II

continued from previous post...

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

The Batsuit (or Bat-Suit) is Batman's costume and is essential in making him who he is. Though the suit has been drawn many different ways by different artists in the comic books and then re-interpreted and re-designed for the big screen, the stories themselves have described Batman as modifying the details of his costume from time to time. The Batsuit is most often depicted as consisting of: matching black (or blue) scalloped cape, bat-like cowl, gloves with a series of scalloped, fin-like protuberances, boots, and outerwear briefs; a utility belt; and a skintight gray body suit (with a stylized, black bat insignia emblazoned on the chest—either without, or within, a bright-yellow ellipse).

Batman wears this costume both to conceal his identity, and to frighten criminals. Most versions of the Batsuit incorporate some form of body armor, and often night-vision, gas filters, and other aids to combat effectiveness or protection. All versions of the costume incorporate a utility belt containing a variety of technological, mechanical, and crime-fighting gadgets.

In the Video games Batman: Arkham Asylum and its subsequent sequel Arkham City the batsuit appears more akin to that of the cloth versions often seen in the comics. But underneath the aesthetic layer was a series of armor to protect against ballistic damage. Throughout the course of the games the suit takes on more and more progressive damage. The mask contains a "Detective Mode" visor to allow Batman to investigate crime scenes, collect data, navigate and locate signals. The gauntlets contain not only Batman's signature spiked blades but also a hardened mini computer and remote for his vehicles. His cape is similar to the one in the Nolanverse films which permits him to glide across vast distances. His utility belt contains an array of gadgets some of which he either builds and accumulates over the course of the games.

This is my second part review of the recently released Hot Toys VGM18 (Video Game Masterpiece Series) "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Figure - see my June haul posted on my toy blog HERE. The collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Batman from the game featuring a newly developed masked head sculpt with 2 interchangeable lower faces, newly sculpted muscular body and Batsuit, and detailed weapons.

Check out the upcoming NECA Quarter Scale Batman: Arkham Knight 18-inch tall action figure

Batman: Arkham Knight is an upcoming action-adventure video game being developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the successor to Warner Bros. Games Montréal's 2013 video game Batman: Arkham Origins, and the fourth main installment in the Batman: Arkham series. Arkham Knight is expected to be released worldwide on June 23, 2015.

Arkham Knight features Batman, a superhero trained to the peak of human physical and mental perfection and an expert in martial arts. Batman's armor was redesigned to match that of the Batmobile to make them appear visually similar—featuring the same shapes and material textures—and appear functionally compatible with the high-speed methods in which the character enters and exits the vehicle. The design also added armor over Batman's shoulders, covering the previously exposed cape, to make it appear more feasible that it could hold Batman's weight without failing during gliding.

Over the past several months NECA has been teasing the Batman: Arkham Knight 18-inch figure, but this is the first time that we see the highly detailed 1/4 scale figure and it looks pretty good. This figure is scheduled to start shipping in July, for an SRP of $125.99.

Formerly a member of the Weapon X program, the “Merc with a Mouth” is a longtime assassin for hire and independent agent who’s worked alongside just about every superhero and villain from the Avengers to X-Men and everything in between. Now the fourth wall-breaker invades your house, and this time he’s brought a chimichanga!

Created in 1991 by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, Deadpool has never looked back and continues to appear in more and more books with his unique style and nonstop witty repartee, not to mention his trademark costume and extensive armory!

Wilson makes a stunning debut in the ARTFX+ series as he crouches in preparation for the attack, drawing one of his swords from the sheaths on his back. This time Deadpool wears his iconic red and black costume with its abundance of straps, pouches, extra ammunition, spare weapons, pointy hood with his mask peeled back just enough to eat a chimichanga and display his scarred features, and of course his cute Deadpool logo belt buckle. In his low crouch the assassin leans forward with his other hand extended in front of him, and you can choose between interchangeable left hands that hold either a chimichanga or Headpool!

Review 1: Hot Toys VGM "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman 12" Collectible Action Figure

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum and the second installment in the Batman: Arkham series.

Batman: Arkham City is based on the franchise's long-running comic book mythos. In the game's main storyline, Batman is incarcerated in Arkham City, a huge new super-prison enclosing the decaying urban slums of fictional Gotham City. He must uncover the secret behind the sinister scheme, "Protocol 10", orchestrated by the facility's warden, Hugo Strange. The game's leading characters are predominantly voiced by actors from the DC Animated Universe, with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively. The game is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Arkham City expands Batman's arsenal of gadgets and combat attacks and offers a more open world structure, allowing the player to complete side missions away from the primary storyline.

This is the recently released Hot Toys VGM18 (Video Game Masterpiece Series) "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Figure - see my June haul HERE. The collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Batman from the game featuring a newly developed masked head sculpt with 2 interchangeable lower faces, newly sculpted muscular body and Batsuit, and detailed weapons.

Although not based on any particular actor under the cowl, Arkham City Batman still looks very life-like and real, especially with the detailed skin texture and facial expression. The batsuit appears more akin to that of the cloth versions often seen in the comics. But underneath the aesthetic layer was a series of armor to protect against ballistic damage. In this case, Hot Toys chose to fit Batman with a suit made of soft rubber.

Kotobukiya DC Comics Batman: Arkham Knight 1/10th Batman ARTFX+ Statue with diorama

The Dark Knight returns to Kotobukiya’s hit ARTFX+ lineup of superheroes and villains based on DC Comics characters, this time with Batman in his new armored costume from the Batman: Arkham Knight game. The 2015 installment is the fourth in the Batman: Arkham series and takes the Caped Crusader to a whole new level with a heavily armored look fully realized in this highly detailed 1/10th presentation.

Batman relentlessly hunts for the criminals attacking Gotham City (led by Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight), and to do that must break down a few doors. Sculpted 1/10th scale by M.I.C., Dark Knight is captured in mid-leap as he flies through the air in a dynamic pose that’s sure to catch any collector’s eye! Every detail of his new armor is complete down to the heavy plating, segmented joints, the tread on his boots, the weight of his new cape, and of course Batman’s traditional scowl under his pointed cowl.

A first for the ARTFX+ series, Batman comes with a new modular base system that lets you customize your display with a wide range of options; display Batman breaking through a wall, vaulting over rubble, or in the middle of delivering a flying side kick!

With multiple square and rectangular pieces plus a broken window, metal grate, and joint parts this set is all about building your own diorama base. Even better, you can really craft your own unique display by combining Batman’s architectural elements with those of his arch-rival the Arkham Knight (sold separately - see NEXT post) and show off the two fighting in a rich and complex Gotham City environment!

Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure Review II

continued from previous post...

More pictures taken of this awesome Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure, now seen with both his sword and Tanegashima (Japanese matchlock), designed to look like the BlasTech E-11 blaster rifle which is the standard rifle carried by the Imperial Stormtroopers in the Star Wars films (episodes IV to VI). Everything about this figure is well thought out and cleverly interpreted , redesigned to look like a foot soldier (Ashigaru) employed by the samurai class of feudal Japan.

The Star Wars Stormtroopers have been getting more attention lately, especially since the newer ones will be coming out in the latest instalment of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens which will be released in December this year. Hot Toys has released their 1:6 scale version of the Stormtroopers (best 12-inch version by far IMHO) with more variations to come. Square Enix will also be releasing a Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1:7 scale Stormtrooper action figure (previewed on my toy blog HERE) and then there's this Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure which I really dig :)

Considering the fact that early drafts of the artwork and film script for Star Wars actually have swordplay as being fairly common, with laser swords carried by nearly every character, this Ashigaru Stormtrooper having a sword doesn't seem that far fetched at all. If one was to drop one of these troopers into the midst of a battle in the past that is feudal Japan, he might just fit right in. That's how authentic he looks. Did you know that early in the production of the original Star Wars film, George Lucas considered doing the whole film in Japanese with subtitles. The Japanese influences found in Star Wars are just too many to list.

1:6 scale Sir Christopher Lee as Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus in Star Wars - Rest In Peace

Sir Christopher Lee, the veteran actor and star of many of the world's biggest film franchises, has died aged 93. With a career spanning nearly 70 years, Lee initially portrayed villains and became best known for his role as Count Dracula in a sequence of Hammer Horror films. His other film roles include Francisco Scaramanga in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), Saruman in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) and The Hobbit film trilogy (2012–2014), and Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus in the final two films of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (2002 and 2005) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008).

This is the Hasbro released 1:6 scale Christopher Lee as Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus 12-inch figure from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. In the film, Lee is former Jedi Master who falls to the dark side of the Force and becomes Darth Sidious's second apprentice, the founder of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the instigator of the Clone Wars. Lee did most of the swordplay himself, though a double was required for the long shots with more vigorous footwork.

Introduced in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku) appears as the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a federation of planetary systems rebelling against the Galactic Republic due to his anger by its bureaucracy as well as the apparent unwillingness of the Jedi Council to aid oppressed galactic systems.

Preview VTS Toys 1/6th Agent Hunter 12-inch figure (Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt)

Ethan Matthew Hunt is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Mission: Impossible film series. The Mission: Impossible films are a series of action spy films based on the television series of the same name, produced by and starring Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. The Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team, was an unofficial branch of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and implied to be a black operations division of the Agency.

The famous phrase / line from the series was: "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves (fill in the mission) and should any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds." Cue theme music.

This is VTS Toys (VM-012) 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch figure (Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt) which will come with real like head sculpt, 12-inch action body, one (1) pair of hands, tactical gloved hands x 3. Costume / uniform consists of: black top / shirt, black jeans / pants, long sleeve tee, BDU belt, combat boots, tactical body armor / assault vest.

This is the second Tom Cruise character 12-inch figure to be previewed in less than a week. I had posted a Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) figure on my toy blog recently - see the post HERE. Makes you wonder how many Tom Cruise figures are out there. I had managed to score a Medicom Toy RAH 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt Collectible Figure in April (see my haul HERE) and I have quite a number of Tom Cruise related figures in my collection, so much so that I created a label titled "Tom Cruise".

Review 1: Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure

The original Stormtroopers (in German Sturmtruppen; the term "thrust troops", Stoßtruppe was also used) were specialist soldiers of the German Army in World War I. In the last years of the war, Stoßtruppe were trained to fight with "infiltration tactics", part of the Germans' new method of attack on enemy trenches. Men trained in these methods were known in Germany as Sturmmann (literally "storm man" but usually translated as "stormtrooper"), formed into companies of Sturmtruppe ("assault troops", more often and less exactly "storm troops"). The infiltration tactics of the stormtroopers are still in use today, in one form or another. Other armies have also used the term "assault troops", "shock troops" or fireteams for specialist soldiers who perform the infiltration tasks of stormtroopers.

Star Wars creator George Lucas created the Stormtroopers as the elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire. Like Imperial-class Star Destroyers and TIE fighters, stormtroopers served as ever present reminders of the absolute power of Emperor Palpatine. These faceless enforcers of the New Order were considered an extension of the Emperor's will, and thus they often used efficient yet usually unreasonable tactics as a way to keep thousands of star systems throughout the galaxy in line. At the height of the Empire, stormtroopers had effectively become symbols of major authority. With few exceptions, they were distinguished from all other military units by their signature white armor.

Ashigaru (足軽 lit. lightfeet) were foot-soldiers who were employed by the samurai class of feudal Japan. The first known reference to ashigaru was in the 1300s, but it was during the Ashikaga Shogunate-Muromachi period that the use of ashigaru became prevalent by various warring factions.

Based on the designers at Bandai Japan, this is what happens when you combine the Ashigaru of fuedal Japan with the Imperial Stormtroopers of the Star Wars galaxy. I just love the whole new look of this Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure! Combining traditional samurai armor with the look of the sci-fi Stormtroopers makes for a whole new bada$$-looking re-imagined soldier. What's there not to love about these troopers!

June 2015 Haul: ArkhamCity Batman, Avengers2 Captain America + Bandai Ashigaru Stormtrooper

May 2015 was a relatively quiet month as I didn't get anything LOL sure I pre-ordered some stuff but hauls are about receiving the physical goods and opening up the box. In the old days, pre-orders didn't exist and you have to wait for the toys to arrive at the shops and hopefully beat the queue and the crowd to get what you want. These days, pre-orders are necessary for you to reserve the figure you want so that you can be assured of the figure when it arrives. Otherwise, you might just miss the boat and end up paying secondary market prices. In the past, you would walk into the shop and pick up what you like when you are there but these days, you pick up what you like from the images posted on the world wide web, place your order and wait months before the figure arrives. Times certainly have changed. As you can tell, I was a very patient man for the whole month of May.

On the other hand, June is already looking up with some nice picks :) Nothing perks me up more than getting new goodies to play (um... I meant 'pose') with.

Hot Toys VGM "Batman: Arkham City" 1/6th scale Batman Collectible Action Figure arrived, along with Hot Toys "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Captain America 12-inch Collectible Figure and Bandai Star Wars 7-inch tall Movie Realization Ashigaru Stormtrooper figure. Three of my favorite topics: Batman, Captain America and Star Wars – what more can I ask for? That answer is time! I need more time to appreciate all these that I have but unfortunately, time and tide waits for no man.

Devil May Cry (Japanese: デビル メイ クライ Hepburn: Debiru Mei Kurai) is a video game series developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. Lady is a human demon hunter introduced in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. Check out Play Toy P007 1/6 Maintenance Technician 12" figure aka Oblivion's Jack Harper

Last November, Play Toy announced that they were coming out with a 12-inch figure set called Maintenance Technician - check out my toy blog post HERE. Anyone who had seen the 2013 film OBLIVION would have recognised it right away as the character Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise). At the time, there was feedback from collectors who saw the pictures that it had a couple things wrong with it - namely the poor detail of the rifle and the absence of dust goggles. After some time, many thought the set would never come to fruition. Play Toy has just re-released all new images this week, with an improved set. Rifle has more detail, and the goggles are there! Isn't it nice when manufacturers listen to feedback :)

Oblivion is a 2013 post-apocalyptic science fiction film based on Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name. The film was co-written, produced and directed by Kosinski. The film is set in the year 2077, sixty years after Earth has been devastated from the effects of an alien invasion. Most of humanity has left Earth for a massive tetrahedral space station (called Tet).

Tom Cruise stars as Commander Jack Harper, one of the few remaining humans on Earth assigned to protect and maintain drones that extract Earth's resources to fuel the Tet. With only a couple of weeks away from joining the rest of humanity, Jack discovers a crashed spacecraft that forces him to question everything he believes.

Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch figure aka Oblivion's Jack Harper will come with: Head Sculpt, Male Body, Goggles, Pants, Jacket, Boots, Belt, Rifle, Sling, Pistol, Holster, Hand Assortment
